If you’ll strace an Oracle kernel process...Kunwar,

If you’ll strace an Oracle kernel process when it is waiting on a row lock, you’ll see a sequence of enqueue events in the Oracle trace file, and a sequence of associated operating system calls in the strace output. The OS call I’ve seen related to enqueue events is semtimedop. If you look at the manual page for semtimedop, I think it will make sense to you what is going on.Cary Millsaphttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16697498718050285274noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2954359812249072053.post-75493884587913367472020-01-20T08:08:31.001-06:002020-01-20T08:08:31.001-06:00Cary , one question.

Which Cary sometimes does, for example in the analysis of the pros and cons of the waterfall method versus the agile method.

I will claim that I used both methodology and method in a boringly accurate way in this post.

I very rarely do also engage in methodology while I always cringe when someone calls a method a methodology.

mwf
Mark W. You collect your AWR and pull your trusty ASH routines off the shelf and ..... NADA. They don't help show that active user wall clock time, in the middle of processing, was being spent outside of Oracle. ASH misses it and has "black hole" gaps in the collection effort because Oracle categorizes SNMBFC as an "Idle Wait State" and a NON ACTIVE session. You have to "flip" underscore init.ora parms to overcome this annoyance in ASH, but getting a wait states trace "tells the story" that ASH totally misses by default.MSanchezhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04564928966813364324noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2954359812249072053.post-55051649056240399842017-11-27T15:06:18.904-06:002017-11-27T15:06:18.904-06:00Colin, thank you.
